Short‑sentence Polished Version (Concise, Standard Test Language)
This test method assesses how windows and fly screen mesh connect.
It serves as a design tool. It evaluates window‑screen connection performance under static loads.
A screen’s connection stability depends on load size, duration, repetition and connection type.
The platen size and shape are chosen to avoid damaging screen mesh during static loading.
This method tests static load resistance of insect screens installed on functional window positions under standard load conditions.
It applies to functional insect screens with minimum access opening larger than 12 inches (300 mm), tested from inside and outside.
It also evaluates static load resistance of insect screen accessories.
It defines test equipment and procedures for applying static loads to samples.
Operating Steps
- PreparationRemove non‑standard sealing or packing materials.Mount the sample to the test frame following manufacturer instructions.Open all glazed window sashes or panels fully. This prevents interference with screen and frame deformation under load.Install all insect screens in their working positions.
- Operate the window screen five times before testing (except Step 5).Position the test device so one side of the sample faces the static‑loading unit.
- For detachable screens: remove and reinstall five times.
- For movable insect screens: open fully then remove completely (or retract from storage and reset) five times.
- Fixed non‑removable screens require no pre‑test operation.
- Apply specified static load perpendicular to the sample.Center the platen at the screen’s diagonal intersection point. No dynamic force shall be applied during loading.Hold the steady load for 60 ± 5 seconds.
- Remove the load.
- Inspect and record any detachment or deformation. If a new screen is used before reverse‑direction testing, check for damage in the opposite direction.
- Reposition the device or sample to test the opposite side.
- Repeat Steps 6–8.
- For multiple screen tests, reuse the same window unit with new screens if no window damage is found.
